Today I saw a glaring example of just how difficult it is going to be, to get many of my fellow Americans to come over to the Ideas and Practices of Energy Conservation. During a visit to one of our Shopping Centers, I noticed on my way in, that a large Super-Cab Pick-Up was parked, locked and running full blast. Upon closer inspection, I also determined that the vehicle was devoid of any occupants and with the windows rolled up as tight as they were, I surmised that the driver did not desire to return to a hot car, warmed by the Sun’s rays. After a quick twenty minute shopping visit inside the store, I returned to the parking lot to find the behemoth truck still running and a considerable pool of condensate water beneath the engine area. I then said to myself, “Olson, I am so glad you stopped doing that and you must commit to helping others understand why we Americans should hurry and change our wasteful ways.” I believe many people feel that since there in not a fuel shortage, just high prices and since they can afford to buy it, they have a right to burn it as they see fit. I believe conservation and preservation of the environment is a good common sense way to ensure that we maintain a safe and healthy place to live and raise our families. Conservation and protecting the earth just makes good survival sense over the long haul.
What do you think about all the fuss about protecting the environment? Is it justified or is it much ado about nothing? If you had the opportunity to work from home and make the same or more money than you make now, while cutting the emissions into the air because you no longer commute daily, would you do IT?
